Four students from the Fond du Lac Ojibwe School can add a new line to their credentials: They’ve been certified as open-water scuba divers.
The divers were profiled in a story in Sunday’s News Tribune after spending part of a chilly Saturday afternoon completing their first two dives in Pike Lake north of Duluth.
But they still had two dives to go. They did that, instructor Julius Salinas said, on an even chillier Sunday. The air temperature was 37 degrees, the water temperature was 50, and they dove as snow fell around them.
But they did it. Cody Bauer, 18, is now certified as an open-water scuba diver. James Friedman, 12; Jacob Ammesmaki, 12; and Justin Belanger, 11; are certified as junior open-water scuba divers.
