Free lawyering here

Eh? loves the free things in life. Especially free things that usually are spendy.

It’s no secret that hiring a lawyer can become an expensive proposition. But that doesn’t mean you have to fork over an arm and a leg to get your legal questions answered.

Volunteer legal groups are hoping to spread some awareness of free services next week with Pro Bono Week, which will for the first time include events in Duluth.

The American Bar Association, which sponsors the week, recommends that all lawyers perform at least 50 hours of pro bono services a year. However, those are only recommendations, not rules.

As part of the celebration, local attorneys and judges are encouraged to attend the first Northeast Minnesota Pro Bono Social on Wednesday from 4-6 p.m. at Tycoons. Mayor Don Ness will kick off the celebration by reading a proclamation. RSVP to Anna Beadle at abeadle@clcmn.org or by calling (651) 644-4438.
