Some College of St. Scholastica students and members of the First United Methodist Church got up early today so that you can buy fresh-baked pumpkin pies this afternoon.
The pies will be sold for $10 each between 1 and 5 p.m. at First United Methodist Church — “copper-top church” — 230 E. Skyline Parkway, to raise money the CHUM Emergency Food Shelf. Any pies left over will be frozen and distributed to food-shelf guests on Thanksgiving.
“We receive cans and cans of pumpkin each year,” CHUM Food Shelf Director Meg Kearns said, “many more than we can distribute.”
“It’s a perfect project for community day,” event co-coordinator Debra King said. “We learn new skills, we have fun, we enjoy getting to work with people we’ve never met before, while helping the food shelf to clean out unneeded items and make money to replenish needed food in the process.”
