Head out to West Duluth this weekend and help the Lake Superior & Mississippi Railroad celebrate its return to service.
Last year’s flooding washed out bridges and the track along the scenic railroad’s route to New Duluth. Repairs are complete, and Saturday the train makes its first trip of the year.
To help celebrate, the first 15 adult tickets purchased for each ride Saturday and Sunday will be half-price. In addition, the LS&MRR will honor all 2012 tickets and BOGO coupons throughout the 2013 season. Normal ticket prices are $12.25 for adults and $7.50 for children. Children younger than 3 ride free.
The LS&MRR offers trips at 10:30 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. Saturdays and Sundays into October departing from 7100 Grand Ave. (across from the Lake Superior Zoo). Each trip lasts about an hour and 40 minutes. Go to lsmrr.org for more information.
- Because of culvert work by the Minnesota Department of Transportation on Grand Avenue near Interstate 35, northbound Grand Avenue is closed. Southbound Grand Avenue is open, but the ramp from I-35 to Grand is closed. Traffic between I-35 and Grand Avenue is being detoured onto Central Avenue and Raleigh Street.
