Q. So we’re hosting the Duluth Hot Air Balloon Festival on Sept. 20-22. Will balloon rides be available? That’s how I want to propose to my girlfriend.
A. Kind of. Those who make a $5 donation to the free festival at Bayfront Festival Park will be entered in a drawing for the chance at a ride. Fifty people will get a Golden Ticket, good for two people to get a tethered hot-air-balloon ride. Weather rules the balloon world, so entrants must be available just after sunrise and before sunset Friday through Sunday in case optimal conditions are delayed.
If the weather doesn’t comply during the weekend, no tethered rides will be offered.
One of the 50 Golden Ticket winners gets a shot at the grand prize: an untethered balloon ride for two. The prize is guaranteed. If weather and timing don’t work out, the ride will be rescheduled for a different day and/or location.
