Do good; do brunch

You can tuck into some of the finest fare in the region this weekend and know that you’re helping to feed families in need as you chow down. Area chefs will donate their talents and local vendors will provide vittles for a brunch to benefit the Second Harvest Northern Lakes Food Bank. The buffet, also featuring a live jazz trio, will run from 10:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Sunday at the Duluth Entertainment Convention Center.

“It’s the best brunch in Duluth by far, and it only happens once a year,” Chef Arlene Coco Buscombe, one of the organizers of the event, said of the event dubbed the Al Dumancus Memorial Brunch in memory of the esteemed chef who kept members of Duluth’s Kitchi Gammi Club well fed for years.

Chef Paul Madsen is spearheading this year’s brunch and said he’s expecting to feed more than 300 guests. Tickets are available at the door for $25.

Proceeds from the meal go to the food bank and help fund scholarships offered by the Arrowhead Professional Chefs Association, which has handled the brunch for 12 years.
