Duluth’s Gloria Dei Lutheran Church is holding its annual Reconciling in Christ Sunday this weekend.
The day celebrates Gloria Dei’s position of welcoming people of all sexual orientations and gender identities.
Sunday’s events begin at 8:45 a.m. with the adult forum in the Hillside Room. Kathy Hermes and Together for Youth people from Lutheran Social Service will talk about their recent Large Puppet Project. Gloria Dei hosts the weekly meetings of Together for Youth, a support group for GLBT youth.
At the 10 a.m. worship service guest Pastor Andres Albertsen will preach on the gospel lesson of “The Marriage in Cana.” Pastor of the Danish Lutheran Church in Buenos Aires, Argentina, from 1992 to 2011, Albertsen and his partner, Luis Alberto Banzer, celebrated their civil union in Buenos Aires in 2005. They married in Buenos Aires in May 2011 after Argentina legalized same-gender marriage.
At 3 p.m., Gloria Dei will host a Reconciling Works (formerly Lutherans Concerned) event in the Hillside Room. The event’s theme is “The Wedding at Cana (or is it Can’ta?),” with a panel talking about marriage from personal, political and theological perspectives.
Gloria Dei is at 219 N. Sixth Ave. E.
