Backpack the ‘Bee-dub’

Sure, bring a paddle. But don’t forget to take a backpack, too.

The Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness isn’t just for canoes — it also has more than 200 miles of scenic and challenging backpacking trails.

Join the Friends of BWCA Trails group at 7 p.m. Wednesday at Hartley Nature Center to learn about backpacking and maintaining trails in the Minnesota wilderness. See dramatic photos of the Pow Wow Trail that capture the devastation that resulted from the Pagami Creek fire. Hear one volunteer’s vision to re-establish the trail and find out what you can do. You also can learn about trips coming up in April and May of this year.

The event is free and open to the public. Go to meetup.com/Friends-of-BWCA-Trails or call Martin Kubik, (651) 214-5849. A photo essay is available.
