Kind soul, aisle 4

A cashier at the Super One on Miller Hill was so moved by one customer’s gesture last week that she contacted the Eh? desk to share it with the world.

On Friday morning, an elderly woman named Mary struggled to write out a check as she paid for her groceries, the cashier said. When an anonymous customer in line behind Mary saw this, she paid Mary’s $90-plus grocery bill with cash.

“It happens every once in a while, but not to this extent,” the cashier said of the customer’s pay-it-forward gesture. “Ninety dollars is a big chunk.”

The cashier said Mary didn’t quite realize what happened until later when she called the store in hopes of sharing her thanks with the anonymous customer.

“Mary would like to give a special thanks,” the cashier said. “She appreciated it.”
