There are 20 tons of taters in a truck in Superior, and they can be yours on Wednesday — for free.
Ruby’s Pantry is a nonprofit food-distribution program with 37 sites across Minnesota and Wisconsin, including several in the Northland. And they’re about to open two more monthly distribution sites in Superior — starting Sept. 10 at Zion Lutheran Church, and starting Oct. 18 at Christ Lutheran Church.
To promote that, and thanks to a donation from a large food producer, they’ll be giving away has a semitrailer full of potatoes from noon to 6 p.m. Wednesday at the Food Service Marketplace at the Mariner Mall, reports Michelle Sternberg with Ruby’s Pantry in Superior.
That’s about 40,000 to 42,000 pounds of potatoes. There’s no income requirement for the potatoes; anyone is welcome to bring bags, boxes and baskets to scoop up the spuds.
