Range flirts with frost

Friday was the coolest morning in months across parts of the Northland as temperatures dipped down into the 30s in some areas at sunrise, including 33 degrees in Embarrass, 34 in Bigfork and 35 at the Chisholm-Hibbing Airport.

Frost in August would be unusual but not unheard of. Cook has Minnesota’s earliest first-frost average date on Sept. 9, while the Duluth airport on average sees frost by Sept. 23.

The National Weather Service in Duluth is forecasting mostly sunny skies for the next week or so, with only a 30 percent chance of rain this afternoon.
