For slow-food, local-food food lovers, two upcoming events could be the crowning glory of your summer complete with a wandering minstrel.
Chefs Jillian Forte and Avery Cassar of Chester Creek Café/At Sara’s Table/Taran’s Market/Needs a Fourth Name hold “table to farm” dinners outdoors Aug. 11 and 25 at local farms.
For $50 per person, you get a farm tour, a four-course prix-fixe meal and one wine pairing. Most of the food comes from the farm where the event is held, and, of course, you will see exactly where it was grown.
Birch Point Gardens in Saginaw is the site of the first dinner, hosted by Sara Pokorney. The tour begins at 6 p.m. with the dinner at 7 p.m. The Food Farm in Wrenshall, hosted by Janaki Fisher-Merritt, is the site of the second dinner, with tours from 2-5 p.m. and the dinner at 5 p.m.
A menu for the first dinner lists squash blossoms stuffed with herbed goat cheese drizzled with honey; purslane, tomatoes, cukes and blanched beans tossed in a cilantro-lime vinaigrette and queso fresco, and brined and grilled chicken on a bed of baby potatoes poached in chicken fat. Plus a raspberry and beet sorbet with goat cheese mousse. Delish.
