The Western Lake Superior Sanitary District will host public tours of the wastewater treatment plant and organics composting facility from 1 to 2:30 p.m. Thursday as part of Lake Superior Day (July 15) events.
Visitors on the wastewater treatment tour will learn about the biological process that returns cleaned water to the St. Louis River (and ultimately to Lake Superior). The organics composting facility tour will show the biological processes that turn organic material like food scraps and yard waste into a valuable soil.
Public parking for Thursday’s tours is available directly in front of WLSSD’s Administration Building at 27th Avenue West and Courtland Street just off of Interstate 35. Wear flat-soled, closed-toe shoes. The tours include stairs and indoor-outdoor settings and are moderately strenuous. Tours are scheduled to begin promptly at 1 p.m. You must be at least 13 years old. Call (218) 722-3336 to RSVP or for more information.
