Water ready

After having two rip current incidents in which people required rescue on Monday, Jesse Schomberg wanted to bring something to Eh? readers’ attention.

Schomberg, program leader and coastal communities extension educator for the Minnesota Sea Grant College Program, said the program has started a new website, which has continuously updated information about the Lake Superior beaches along Park Point, including rip currents, bacteria, water temps and weather.

To drive the (Park) Point home, the Duluth Fire Department and the Great Lakes Surf Rescue Project is holding a “Water Safety Surf Rescue’’ class on Saturday, July 21, at the Park Point Beach House, 5000 Minnesota Ave.

There will be a meet and greet session at 9:30 a.m., a classroom session at 10 a.m. and a water session at 11:15 a.m.

The class is free. Contact Dave Benjamin at (708) 903-0166 to enroll.
